DEDZED beta user self-registration guide

Welcome to the DEDZED beta program! Please follow the steps below to register your account and access DEDZED resources. Here is your quick-start guide to registering your account, initializing it, then accessing your DEDZED resources!

Milestone 1: Register a DEDZED account

Step 1 — Use your CAC to hit the DEDZED registration page

Ensure your unexpired CAC is plugged in to your machine.
  • Make sure your valid CAC is plugged in to your machine.
  • Open your web browser and go to https://dedzed.dso.sh — the Select a certificate CAC pop-up prompt should immediately open within your browser:
    • Select your DOD ID CA-XX certificate and click OK — this opens the Request Platform Invitation page. See next: Step 2.

Step 2 — Completing your platform invitation

  1. Click REQUEST button under Request Platform Invitation option on the next screen.
  2. Enter your First name, Last Name, a valid .mil email account and click REGISTER.
  3. If all the information provided is valid, you should get a Successfully Sent Invitation! status.
  4. Open the Welcome to D3DZ3D Beta email and complete your registration:
    • Where will I get my welcome email? Check the .mil email address that you registered.
    • When will I get my welcome email? It takes about two minutes to receive your Welcome to D3DZ3D Beta email.
    • What do I do with my welcome email? You will use your Welcome to D3DZ3D Beta email to complete your account registration!
    • How do I complete my DEDZED account registration? Your Welcome to D3DZ3D Beta email contains three important items:
      1. Verification link — click “the following link” to complete verification.
      2. Username — your DEDZED account username: firstname.lastname@usa.dev
      3. Password — the password provided is temporary. You will change it during First Time Sign In.
You’ve completed Milestone 1! Proceed to Milestone 2: First Time Sign In.

Milestone 2: First time sign in

  1. Step 1 — Plug your valid CAC card into your machine.
Ensure your valid CAC is plugged in to your machine.
  1. Step 2 — Navigate to https://kasm.dedzed.dso.sh and click the Ping Identity option.
  2. Step 3 — Use your Username and Password from your Welcome to D3DZ3D Beta email:
    • Sign in with your DEDZED account username: firstname.lastname@usa.dev
    • Enter the temporary password you received in your Welcome to D3DZ3D Beta email
  3. Step 4 — Verify your identity:
    • You should be directed to verify your identity with a smart card option: Use a certificate or smart card
    • Select your DOD ID CA-XX certificate and click OK.
  4. Step 5 — Update your password:
    • Input your “current” password: this is the temporary password provided in your Welcome to D3DZ3D Beta email.
    • Create a new password: use best security practices when generating a new password.
    • Confirm your new password.
    • Click Sign in.
  5. Step 6 — More information required:
    • You will be directed to a More information required page. Simply click Next.
  6. Step 7 — Keep your account secure — Success!
    • On the my-sign-in page, simply click the blue Done button.
  7. Step 8 — You’ve completed account initialization. You should be automatically directed to the main Kasm console.
  8. Step 9 — You’ve completed Milestone 2! Proceed to Milestone 3: Access Your DEDZED Resources.

Milestone 3: Accelerate your mission — Access your DEDZED resources!

Now that you’ve completed Milestones 1 and 2 using your CAC, you can access DEDZED resources!

Step 1 — Bookmark your go-to auth method to access DEDZED resources

My go-to authentication method to access DEDZED resources:
  1. Connect my valid CAC card into my machine.
  2. Login to Kasm.
  3. Start a Kasm VDI session.
  4. Within Kasm session, use my DEDZED account username & password authentication to access resources.
Please note that CAC passthrough does not currently work in Kasm VDI.

Step 2 — Accessing DEDZED resources within my Kasm VDI

a. Start a Kasm session by clicking SHE BASH Ubuntu workspace, with Persistent Profile enabled. b. Within a Kasm session, open a browser and navigate to DEDZED. c. Sign in with Ping Identity and use your DEDZED username & password only. CAC passthrough does not currently work in Kasm VDI.

Step 3 — You’ve completed Milestone 3! You’re ready to launch!

  • Accelerate your mission! Launch DEDZED!
  • Accelerate your DEDZED Experience (d3dX) — submit Feedback!

Exclusion list for users with CAC issues

Only in cases where a user cannot sign in with their registered CAC.
  1. Please reach out to the SHE BASH admins at Contact and Support if you encounter issues logging in with your CAC. The SHE BASH team will work with you to try to resolve the issue, but in cases where it can’t be resolved, a user can be added to the CAC exclusion list.
  2. Once an admin has added you to the exclusion list, you can sign in to DEDZED resources without a CAC by using your DEDZED account (firstname.lastname@usa.dev) username, password, and a Microsoft-compatible MFA setup of your choice (you can also choose to skip MFA setup).
